SUBJECT: More S&D success "at" La Cueva

Good afternoon, all,

We had our first ever two-day online tournament this past weekend: The Cave Classic hosted by La Cueva High down in Albuquerque. Since it was an online tournament, a few out-of-state schools competed, including Cheyenne Central, one of the top Speech & Debate competitors in the entire nation. Even with them there, your Gavelin' Eagles did admirably, but their performances were especially impressive within the context of the NM district:

• Addyson Salazar broke to finals and was 2nd in the state for Poetry! She was also 6th in the state for Informative Speaking. And this was only Addy's second tournament!

• Talen Becenti was 4th in the state for Poetry! She was also 7th in the state for Informative Speaking.

• Aspyn Kaskalla was 5th in the state for Informative Speaking! She was also 6th in the state for Poetry.

• Natashia Anderson and Tamarron Austin tied for 5th for Lincoln-Douglas Debate! Natashia was also 5th in the state for Poetry.

• Madilynn Mora was 7th in the state for Poetry!

Performances like these all season long have lifted Navajo Prep to 6th in the state in the National Speech & Debate Association's rankings, and we are within reach of the top 5! This despite the fact that it is our rookie year and that we are significantly smaller (and, of course, more remote) than every other team in the top 10.
