Student Leadership

1. Why speech and debate?

I do speech and debate to make new connections, try new things, and hone my speaking and presentation skills! The community is probably my favorite part, and I’ve met so many amazing people both on our team and in the district that I cherish greatly.

2. Favorite event?

My favorite event is Informative Speaking. It was the very first event that I tried freshman year and I absolutely fell in love with the style. I also really love Extemporaneous Speaking because of the format, minimal prep, and the nature of what I get to speak on.

3. Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?

Probably getting renominated to the NSDA Student Leadership Council for a second year, because knowing my district wanted me back in such an influential position was such a gratifying feeling.

4. Favorite s-and-d memory?

My favorite memory is probably dinner at flying star (iykyk lol), team bonding after tournaments is always the best.

5. Favorite s-and-d trip snack/food/beverage?

Probably Arizona tea or maybe just water. Hydration is so important at tournaments so you don’t get a headache and feel like you’re dying in round lol.

I do speech and debate to improve my speaking skills. I also do it because of the team and one of my best friends, TK, who got me into going to tournaments. I feel like our team really works well together, helps me be confident or hype myself up before a round. We just really enjoy hanging out together in between rounds. I really love our team. 

2. Favorite event?

My favorite events are duo and poetry. My first duo partner was one of our former captains, Tamarron Austin, and I really just loved the event. I also LOVE poetry because it’s poetry. 😆 I’ve managed to place 2nd and break into finals at each La Cueva tournament so for obvious reasons it’s my favorite. 

3. Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?

Placing 2nd in Poetry at the past La Cueva Tournament. It just felt so surreal when I heard all of my team cheering for me. 

4. Favorite s-and-d memory?

My first ever tournament, Cottonwood Classic 2022. It was such a goofy tournament but decorating our table and winning Mr. Lice is definitely one of my favorite memories. Live Laugh Lice! 😝

5. Favorite s-and-d trip snack/food/beverage?

My favorite drinks are Peach Peace Tea and Glacier Freeze Gatorade. My favorite snack is probably Funyuns or a burger or fries from McDonalds.

Because I can express my opinions on different subjects and because of how engaging it can be.

2. Favorite event?

Congress because of how the event works and functions. The bills can be so interesting and can cause you to research more into the bill. Also, I like the title "Representative Jones."

3. Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment(s) would be placing 8th in Congress Districts and being the 4th alternate. Another accomplishment would be when I somehow got 3rd in Senate for Congress.  Lastly, when I found out I was 6th place in Lincoln-Douglas and Impromptu. All of these I was happy and proud of myself (especially Congress). 

4. Favorite s-and-d memory?

My favorite S-and-D memory would be when they announced the people who broke to House finals for Congress Districts, and I heard my title. I was so happy that I was now closer to qualifying for Nationals. Also, I love how me and Haylei were polar opposites with our emotions when we both broke. She was crying and I was happy.

5. Favorite s-and-d trip snack/food/beverage?

My favorite snack/food/ beverage would honestly be Asian Pear for dinner (it's so good), The snack would definitely be the Airheads extremes bites. Lastly, my favorite beverage would be Arizona Tea (especially the green tea). An honorable mention would be the Starbuck Mocha bottles.

To improve my speaking skills and for fun.

2. Favorite event?

Duo Interp, since you're basically embarrassing yourself with your partner.

3. Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?

When my friend and I got 2nd place in Duo Interp. 

4. Favorite s-and-d memory?

When Tash threatened Kaleb since he spilt a beverage over her computer.

5. Favorite s-and-d trip snack/food/beverage?

Raising Canes, no questions asked.
