P-Russ's recap:
Greetings, all,
The good s-and-d tidings keep on a-coming: I have just been informed that the New Mexico Speech & Debate Association has nominated our own Aspyn Kaskalla to represent the entire state by serving for a second year on the National Speech & Debate Association's Student Leadership Council!!!
As you may be aware, about a year ago, the New Mexico Speech & Debate District first nominated Aspyn to represent our state on this prestigious student leadership group, which was then in its very first year of existence. This is a group of students from around the country (and even across the globe!) who are selected to weigh in on speech and debate, represent their peers, and influence actual NSDA policy and initiatives. The NSDA has over 100 districts, each of which submitted a nominee, and last April Aspyn was one of just 24 who were chosen for the inaugural committee.
Aspyn was selected for a one-year term, but when the NSDA announced that students who were not graduating could reapply, the NM District Committee leaped at the opportunity to renominate her.
Just like last year, Aspyn is not all the way there yet. She will once again need to be selected from over 100 total candidates representing each s-and-d district. So please send her your positive vibes as she continues through this process! All of us here in the NM s-and-d community, and especially those of us here at NPS, have been so honored to have Aspyn representing us, and we are very hopeful she gets to continue doing so!
Best,
Russell
