SUBJECT: Debate? More like dominate!

Forgive the hokey subject line.

But that's exactly what the Speech & Debate team did at today's Coyote Congress Tournament (originally to be held at Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School down in ABQ but had to be moved online for logistical reasons).

Despite having our smallest turnout of the season, we came away with our most impressive performance yet. Of the 7 Gavelin' Eagles who competed in Novice Congressional Debate, 6 of them ranked in the top 10 for the state! That's right: Navajo Prep students comprised more than half of New Mexico's 10 best Novice Congressional Debaters!

Here's the rundown:

• 3rd place - Talen Becenti

• 4th place - Aspyn Kaskalla

• 5th place - Shaun Mckinley (at his first ever debate!)

• 6th place - Josiah Dineyazhe

• 7th place - Jordyn Begay

• 9th place - Tamarron Austin

I continue to be equal parts astonished and inspired by the incredible resolve, energy, and success of our kiddos. Please congratulate these six when you see them around this week!
