SUBJECT: Gavelin' Eagles back in action at CapCon! 🎉🧑‍⚖️🦅

Greetings, all,

We are cruising up 550 on our way back from Capitol Congress, our first speech and debate tournament of the year. We lost a few kids to the Dean's List trip (and yes, I am still a bit salty about it), but we nevertheless had 18 kids turn out for the long trip to Santa Fe, half of whom were doing this for their first time ever! Despite all the nerves and challenges, we have much to celebrate.

Please join me in congratulating the following Gavelin' Eagles in particular:

• Aspyn Kaskalla, who placed 3rd in the incredibly competitive Senate! This achievement means Aspyn is essentially third in the state for Congressional Debate at the moment. 

• Kaleb Jones, who placed 5th overall in his House chamber!

• Kiona Manson, who placed 7th overall in her House chamber and was her group's 4th highest ranked novice debater! For context, each House chamber contained over 20 competitors, nearly all of whom were novices.

• Ishi Reale, who placed 8th overall in her House chamber and was her group's 4th highest ranked novice debater!

• Natashia Anderson, who placed 9th in the Senate!

• Charmista Barela, who was her House chamber's 10th highest ranked novice debater!

Big thanks to our assistant coach Malyssa Egge for coming down from Bluff to chaperone and serve as parliamentarian today, to Edith for getting us there and back safely, and to a variety of community supporters who met us there to judge on the team's behalf.

We are turning right around for our next tournament in just ten days. Despite how hard these kids just worked, the bus is abuzz with excitement! Season 3 is off to a great start.
