P-Russ's recap:
SUBJECT: Gavelin' Eagles soar through the Eye of the Storm! ⛈️🦅
Greetings, all,
This weekend, the Gavelin' Eagles turned up for the final normal-season speech-and-debate tournament of the year: the Eye of the Storm at V. Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho. Many members of our team opted to frolic in the snow on Friday instead of engaging in high-octane academic competition (go figure!), but still we had nine intrepid competitors make the trip down. Despite this unusually small turnout — and an exceptionally competitive tournament — your Gavelin' Eagles performed admirably.
In particular, please join me in congratulating the following:
Carla Claunch, who took 2nd in Program Oral Interpretation, also earning Top Novice Speaker for that event! Carla also placed 6th in Dramatic Interpretation! Carla's success is particularly astounding since she only truly joined the team two weeks ago!!!
Addy Salazar, who took 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation!
Aspyn Kaskalla, who took 4th in Program Oral Interpretation!
Danica Becenti, who took 4th in Dramatic Interpretation!
Kaleb Jones, who took 5th in Dramatic Interpretation!
I expect we had a few others who placed in the top ten, but once again I can't yet see full results. I will follow up once I get that access.
Big thanks to Ms. Wolfe for driving one of the 'Burbs and co-chaperoning our trip! Also to Coach Kaskalla and Coach Egge, both of whom got themselves down there all on their own to support us and judge on the team's behalf! And finally to all the other community members and supporters who came out to judge!
Onto the postseason now!
Best,
Russell
Addendum:
Full results are out! Further congratulations are due to:
Kaleb Jones, who placed 6th in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate! Kaleb was just a single win from breaking past prelims! This may well be the team's best ever showing in Varsity LD (not an easy event)!
Aspyn Kaskalla, who placed 8th in International Extemporaneous Speaking!
Ayden Redhouse, who placed 9th in United States Extemporaneous Speaking!
