Coach Egge's speech and debate career started when she was growing up in South Dakota and competed under legendary coach Donus D. Roberts. Her primary events were Policy and Original Oratory.
Since then, Malyssa has spent nearly two decades working with tribal, state, federal, and private grants and programs throughout the Navajo Nation and San Juan County, Utah. Malyssa finds value in contributions to community, which is what led her to reach out to P-Russ during the Gavelin' Eagles' first season to offer her support. She regularly served as a judge and chaperone that year, despite the fact that she lives five hours from most tournaments! At the beginning of our second season, we tapped her to come on as an assistant coach to take advantage of her expertise with some of the more technical Debate events like Policy.
Malyssa has completed a bachelor's degree in psychology and Native American studies and a master's in Native American community development.
Malyssa is fascinated by the plant kingdom and concepts of food sovereignty. She enjoys the desert's petrichor, the brilliant night sky, syncopated rhythm, and high school speech and debate!
