Why speech and debate?
Genuinely, the different events allow me to explore my different pursuits. USX lets you ad-lib and think on your feet, Debate builds research skills -- all of these help me to improve in different areas and bring out a different me.
Favorite event?
Any debate event. I love speech, but debate is sumptuous and luxurious.
Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?
Yet to be determined...
Favorite s-and-d memory?
This is kinda cliché, but, like Ronald McDonald, I'm lovin' it. 😉
Favorite s-and-d trip snack/beverage?
Starbucks and Cracker Barrel.

Why speech and debate?
s&d was always a thought of mine growing up but it was something that wasn't common. so, when s&d was founded (again) at prep i joined, honestly thinking it would be great and it was. i like it and i still rlly do.
Favorite event?
my fav event prolly is usx bcuz thats the event i do the most, its my fav bcuz u rlly have no means of prepping for that event except keeping up with recent global events. usx helped me learn to retain information quickly and memorize and formulate speeches quickly as well.
Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?
i think my proudest s&d moment was during our first season at the cottonwood classical tournament. it was receiving my first medal at an acc tournament. sure, i gad placed before and after that tournament, but having a representation of that made me so happy.
Favorite s-and-d memory?
my fav s&d memory was and is going to the eye of the storm tournaments at v. sue cleveland. for some reason at those tournaments, last yr and this yr, both gave created great memories for me, especially with co-captain tammy.
Favorite s-and-d trip snack/beverage?
my fav thing to eat at a s&d tournament is prolly cfa, its totally the best. and even better when russell lets me scan my app and i get more points. thanks russ 🤗

Why speech and debate?
I do speech and debate because it brings me joy! There is nothing better than performing, debating and the rush of excitement when you break into the later rounds. I do speech and debate because it is my creative outlet, and I can express myself so much more than writing a silly little essay.
Favorite event?
My favorite event would have to be Dramatic Interpretation. This is the event that I first fell in love with and what got me hooked on speech and debate. It is so much more than reading a script or acting a scene out. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, riding along a storyline, and as you perform, you get to take your audience that rollercoaster ride.
Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment would be double qualifying for nationals. I really did not have hope in myself of breaking for my event, as well as being selected for New Mexico’s World Schools team.
I was truly shocked and it made me believe that I have so much more potential than just being a "normal highschooler."
Favorite s-and-d memory?
Definitely would be at Nationals, driving to pick up Talen (TK) and Russell yelling “Yo yo yo, P-Russ in the house! Roll call! Pull up!” It is now my greeting for everything speech and debate related.
Favorite s-and-d trip snack/beverage?
Favorite thing to eat would be IHOP and sadly it only happened once. My favorite drink however, would be the Raspberry Peace Tea from the gas station in Cuba.

Why speech and debate?
I do speech and debate because I see it as not only an extracurricular activity, but also an opportunity to use the speaking platform that is provided through my main event Informative Speaking to educate others on topics that I’m passionate about, such as MMIW or ICWA. I also greatly appreciate the opportunity to grow my skills as a thinker and speaker
Favorite event?
My favorite event is Informative Speaking, and this is because there is such a wide variety of topics that are discussed. It's far less rigid than debate events yet still very structured with specific requirements. I love competing in this event as well as watching it.
Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?
My proudest speech and debate accomplishment is probably when I was nominated for the National Speech and Debate Association’s student leadership council by my district. To see myself, a competitor who was barely wrapping up their novice season grow in speech and debate to the point where I was nominated for such an honor was absolutely amazing.
Favorite s-and-d memory?
My favorite memory is probably when last season, we stayed at a hotel with a pool that was in a separate building, and we all had to mad dash in the cold to make it there. It was so much fun and all I remember are the games we played in the pool, then immediately rushing out and going back to last minute prepping for the following day.
Favorite s-and-d trip snack/beverage?
Definitely not Dion’s.
I’m kidding, that is still a great option, it’s just that our team has had pizza so many times that we all groan at the mere mention of pizza as a meal. I’d say my favorite is probably when we get wingstop, because you can just take as much or as little out of the mass ordered containers. And to drink, water. Its literally your best friend during a tournament. Don’t be the kid who’s on the brink of passing out because they were running around between rounds and didn’t stop to eat or drink anything.

Why speech and debate?
I do speech and debate because it’s the only time I can argue and really spread my opinion on controversial topics. It also gives me a chance to express my passion for things I care for through speech events.
Favorite event?
I LOVE congress because I have the opportunity to hear other points of views on real life situations.
Proudest s-and-d accomplishment?
Although I enjoy debate, my proudest accomplishment has to be winning 1st place in Informative at East Mountain.
Favorite s-and-d memory?
My favorite speech and debate memory is when me and my roommates woke up right 6 (THE BUS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LEAVING THE HOTEL AT 6!), the hotel room was trashed, clothes everywhere, makeup scattered on the counters, papers on the floor. I have never packed so fast in my life. We all ended up getting ready in the restroom of a restaurant. 😆
Favorite s-and-d trip snack/beverage?
My favorite thing that NEVER misses on speech and debate trips is Chick-Fil-A.
